Military drones are taking over the skies. They are not only being used to fight wars, but also in tasks such as security and traffic control over non-warring territories. However, the Surveillance remains the main use of an average military drone. With the drones development technology advancing everyday with a rapid pace, it becomes equally important to focus on its counter strategy i.e. developing an anti-drone system.
Hello and welcome back to your own channel Indian Defense Analysis where we bring to you all the latest development happening in the defense sector. Today we are going to discuss in detail about an anti-drone technology developed by Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited (ADSTL) which is unique as its the first initiative in anti-drones technology by any private firm.
The story of Adani anti-drone system staring making headlines after the Ministry of Civil Aviation gave conditional exemption from Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Rules to Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited (ADSTL).
The Civil Aviation Ministry’s latest notification on Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Rules, 2021 has laid out norms for operating UAS or drones. As per the new rules, no unmanned aircraft shall be flown within a distance of 5 km from the perimeter of international airports at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad and within a distance of 3 km from the perimeter of any civil, private or defence airports.
The exemption was issued to ADSTL on March 18, for demonstration of counter-drone system to Government organizations using drones.
Following this the ADSTL claimed to have successfully demonstrated the anti-drone systems. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had asked ADSTL to engage a Z-Axix Unmanned Machines Private Ltd to operate the drone models.
The Ministry along with its regulator and the Bureau of Civil Aviation System were looking at having anti-drone systems at airports across the country to counter rogue drones flying drones in no-fly zones and within the vicinity of airports. Now, This demonstration by ADSTL was in sync with the goal set by Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Some of the prominent features of the ADSTL’s Counter UAV or anti-drone system is as follows:
It is capable of detecting and classifying all the commercial drones.
It provides 360 degree coverage for tracking and locating drones.
It is capable of defeating the drones communication system and Global Navigation Satellite System.
It can engage multiple drones simultaneously.
It can operate 24/7 in day and night with or without operator support.
It provides both automatic and manual jamming of drones.
It can also take over the drone control and ensure its safe landing
The demonstration of an anti-drone is important milestone for Indian Defense sector as the infiltration by drones have increased along our Western and North Western border with Pakistan. Every now and then we keep hearing the news of Pakistani drones being shot down by our Border Security Forces(BSF). The development and advancement of such counter drones technology will further fortify our defense against the Unmanned Aerial Threat.
