Iran unveiled a drone capable of hitting targets far from Iran’s borders in a ceremony in Tehran on Sunday.
The ‘Kian’ drone has been manufactured in two versions, one a high-speed tracking model and another a long-haul precision design.
Footage shows the bright red jet-propelled drones being launched by the Iranian Army’s Air Defence Force which also developed and produced the aerial devices in a span of one year, according to officials.
The drones are designed to be able to hit targets far from Iranian borders and are conceived for defence and recognition in hostile territories.
The inauguration comes at a time when relations between the US and Iran are becoming increasingly sour. They have degraded since Iran announced in May that it would partially withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal which the Obama administration, Iran and the European Union signed in 2015. The Trump administration withdrew from the deal in May 2018, re-imposing sanctions on Iran.
